How to Draw Planets

The universe is full of many different planets. We have only scratched the surface of how many we know.

We have little knowledge of our neighboring planets even within our solar system.

It’s fun to learn how planets are drawn because of the mystery surrounding other planets and the variety they can have.

After reading this guide, you’ll be able design your solar system.

We hope you enjoy this 6-step step-by-step guide to drawing planets.

1st Step:

Drawing planets requires a lot of circular shapes. This guide will help you to do it better.

A drawing compass is the best tool you could use. This tool can be used with any pen or pencil to create perfect circles.

If you don’t own a drawing compass, you have other options . To get great results, you could also use flat, round objects.

You can draw a large circle on the top right and a smaller one at the bottom.

2nd Step:

This is the second part of your planets drawing. You can add more planet outlines than the ones you have drawn.

Use whatever method you used to draw circles, draw two more circles of medium size above the ones you have drawn previously.

This is it for the first step. We’re now ready to move on.

3rd Step:

In this step of our tutorial on how to draw planets, we will shake things up. It will begin in the same manner as other planets, but with a smaller circle.

This planet will have a ring around its orbit, which is the difference between the reference picture and the actual one.

4th Step:

Every planet has its own unique look, so no two planets will ever be the same.

We will therefore use a different pattern to each planet when we add details to it.

For its decoration, the top left planet will feature jagged lines. The bottom right and top left will have a more wave-like design, while the last one will have lines to decorate it.

These designs can be swapped between planets, or you could create your own! What will you do to decorate the solar system of your choice?

5th Step:

This step will center around the final details of your planets drawing, before you add some color in the last step.

This step allows you to draw some continents into the center planet. This makes it look like the Earth.

Once you are happy with the details, you can add your own personal touches. You could draw stars around the planets as in our reference photo.

Other objects, such as comets, asteroids, and other planets, could be added to the system.

You have many options to make this drawing your own.

We are eager to see your ideas to finish this planet’s drawing and color it in.

6th Step:

This brings us to the last step in this guide to drawing planets. Now you can have fun coloring your solar system!
