How to Draw Ariel

This tutorial will teach you how to draw Ariel, from the Disney animated series.

You have probably already seen our tutorial drawing the mermaid. This lesson is for all those who have drawn a mermaid before.

Ariel is more than a mermaid. She is also the daughter of Triton the sea king, and this fact sets the character of the heroine. This tutorial will show you how to draw Ariel. It is a bold, determined, yet kind, curious, and cute princess, straight from a Disney fairytale.

How to draw Ariel

Step 1 – Sketch the basics

First, draw an oval around your face. At this point, you can also draw the protrusions of the chin. Draw another oval, but one that is a bit lower. Next, draw the lines of the spine as well as the arms.

Step 2: Draw Ariel’s Eyes

Big eyes are a sign of a positive, kind hero. With a few lines, draw the upper and lower eyelids. Draw the pupils within the lines of the eyes. Ariel will look expressive with eyelash lines.

Step 3: Draw the Outlines and Mouth of the Face

Draw the lips below the nose. Next, trace the contours of the cheekbones and chin with a smooth line. Next, draw the arched eyebrows for the sea princess.

Step 4 – Draw Ariel’s Bangs

We all remember lush locks of Ariel! Although it is difficult to capture such beauty, we will do our best. Draw the bangs with a few simple lines. These lines should be smooth and curvy.

Step 5: Draw the upper part of your hair

Next, draw a long curl that runs down to your shoulder. Each hair doesn’t need to be drawn separately. It is important to precisely draw the outline of Ariel’s lush, voluminous hairstyle.

Step 6 – Draw Ariel’s Torso

Draw the neck of Princess Ariel with a few simple lines. Next, draw the torso using several smooth lines. The torso should taper at the waist.

Step 7 – Draw Ariel’s Arms

Smooth long lines can add volume to arms. To draw the arms, use the earlier construction lines. Although Ariel is a fairytale character, her image was based on a real person.

Step 8 – Draw your hands

Gently lift your hands up to the top and separate your fingers. The thumb occupies half of the space between the other fingers.

Step 9 – Draw the bottom of your hairstyle

Did you know that we made curls? Let’s get back to them, and let them “grow”. The bottom curls, like the top, should be drawn in long flowing lines.

Step 10 – Draw the Waist and Torso Separator

Add a belt around your waist. This detail will be the base of the tail. Ariel’s body appears to “flow” into the tail. Let’s make this belt thicker and frame the waist. The texture will be marked with dashes as if it were beautiful clothes.

Step 11 – Draw Ariel’s Tail

The tail should be long and strong. Two long, curved lines are required to draw the tail. Imagine drawing legs with a tight, long skirt.

Step 12 – Draw Ariel’s Tail Fin

Draw the outline of the fin using four straight lines. Next, draw texture on your tail using a series of evenly spaced curve lines.

Step 13 – Delete the Guidelines

Let’s get rid of all auxiliary lines that can hinder the visual perception of the drawing. To give Ariel’s drawing a cartoonish appearance, trace darker lines and use sharper lines.

Step 14 – Color Ariel Drawing

It’s time for the sea princess to be colored! Red-fey hair, emerald-green tail, light cappuccino skin, and burgundy lips. These are the Ariel canon colors. You can also add your own colors. Creativity is always encouraged!

The Ariel drawing tutorial is done. Do you think you were able to capture their youthful, curious personality of Ariel? You should emphasize her spontaneity, emotion, and curiosity. Many secrets lie beneath the sea, and its inhabitants can tell amazing stories. The story of how we got Ariel is perhaps the most amazing.
