How to Draw a Unicorn

This lesson will teach you how to draw a unicorn, one of the most beloved mythical creatures.

A unicorn is a horse that has a horn on the forehead. Because a unicorn can be drawn like a horse, it is nearly the same process as drawing a horse.

There are many differences between the two animals. The most obvious difference between the two animals is, of course, the unicorn’s hair.

There are other differences that are less obvious, and we will discuss them in detail in this lesson about how to draw a Unicorn.

How to Draw a Unicorn

Step 1: Sketch the general shapes

Sketch three ovals for the head and ribcage. You should arrange them in the same order as they appear in the Easydrawingart.com example.

Step 2: Sketch the Spine and Limbs

Connect the outlines of your head, chest, and pelvis using a few lines to create a unicorn spine. Next, draw the hind and front limbs with a few straight lines.

Step 3: Draw the Neck and Face

Draw the long, elongated face with smooth lines. Draw the lower edge of your neck using a long, smooth line.

Step 4: Draw the Horn and Belly

You can draw a horn that is shorter or longer than the one in our example. Use a smooth line to draw the bottom edge of your torso. The unicorn’s torso should be wider in the stomach than the chest.

Step 5 – Draw your Face Details

Draw a unicorn’s eye just below your horn. Draw the mouth and nostrils in the front of your muzzle. To make your face appear more real, add some folds like in the example.

Step 6: Draw ears and patterns on the Horn

Smooth spiral lines can be used to make the unicorn’s hair more beautiful. Next, draw the ears using a few lines.

Step 7 – Draw the Bangs of the Unicorn

Draw the bangs as well as the top line of your mane. You can verify the proportionality of your unicorn drawing by looking through a mirror.

Step 8 – Draw your mane

Long, curving lines are used to draw the hanging strands of the unicorn’s lush mane. Your unicorn drawing will have a unique look with long, curly hair.

Step 9 – Draw your front legs

The front legs should be drawn using long, smooth lines. Draw bulges under the skin to make the legs look natural.

Step 10 – Draw your Front Hooves

Draw the front hooves for the unicorn with a few lines. Separate them using zigzag hairlines.

Step 11 – Draw your hind legs

Remember to draw the hind legs in a way that is noticeably thicker at their tops and smoother towards the middle.

Step 12 – Draw your hind hooves

The same operation is done as in step 1, but this time, use the hind hooves. The hind and the front hooves look identical and are drawn in exactly the same manner.

Step 13 – Draw the upper line of the tail

This mythical creature is known for its unicorn tail. Begin drawing the tail by sketching the line at the top, as in the example.

Step 14 – Draw the Lower Line for the Tail

The tail of the unicorn should be completed by drawing the bottom line. Your drawn unicorn’s tail should be curvy and long, as in the example.

Step 15 – Delete the Guidelines

Remove all construction lines from your unicorn illustration. You can use an eraser to do this. You can make sharp edges by cutting the eraser in half if you want to erase lines more precisely.

Step 16 – Color your Unicorn Drawing

We used ivory as our base color and light purple for the tail, mane, and hooves. Dark ivory was used for the hooves. Light pink was chosen for the horn and light pink for its horn. To make your unicorn drawing more alive, don’t forget about shadows and leaving a highlight in one eye.

You can add additional elements to make drawing a unicorn more fun.

You can continue drawing cool creatures by going to the Fantasy category. Easydrawingart.com has compiled a collection of lessons on drawing mythical characters and creatures.
